I’d like to wish everyone a very happy new year! All the best and good luck in 2005!
I haven’t had a chance to blog the last couple of days because my uncle and cousin finally came in from Toronto to record some music. My father and uncle had some lengthy negotiations with their bosses (read: wives) before he came down to my “studio”. I never realized how difficult and time-consuming it is to record stuff nicely. Although once again, I’m getting better with the virtual studio!
Here are some pics of the last couple of days and some of the music we did:

The boys (dad, my uncle, my cousin and I) were recording on average for about 5-6 hours/day. Clearly the girls couldn’t keep up. From left to right: Joanna (my lil’ sis), Heshani (my mom’s lil’ sister) and Liza (my first lil’ sis).

Here’s my aunt showing us her classical guitar skills. She’s an excellent musician. I didn’t upload her stuff because she kept stopping halfway through songs!

Here’s Mike. He doesn’t want me to refer to him as “Uncle Mike” because apparently someone as old as me reffering to him as “uncle” makes him feel old!

Here’s the “studio” where I produce my music!

I took this picture of my father and his brother singing “To Love Somebody” at 03:30! We had been recording a few songs since about 22:00. My camera was dead so this was taken with my phone.
I was disappointed we didn’t get to record “Hotel California” or “Stairway to Heaven”, but I guess that’ll have to wait until next time. My cousin and I did the arrangements and I did most of the sound mixing/balancing. Below are a couple of my favourite tracks. Right click the link and select “Save Target As…” to download the song.
My father and his brother’s voices blend REALLY well together. We decided to record this track as an acoustic version, so my uncle sang the main vocals and played the 12 string guitar. My father sang the harmony and played the lead parts on the 6 string.
To Love Somebody (Bee Gees)
With everything happening in the world this was a great song to sing. I wish I could sing like my dad!
Lead and Harmony Vocals: Dad
Piano: Uncle Mike…I mean Mike
Bass Guitar: Dad
Strings: Joint effort between my father and his brother. This was too funny!
Drums: Me
Imagine (John Lennon)
This last one is my favorite, and was by FAR the most difficult to do. The arrangements were tricky and we had to do it over a couple of times before we got something we were happy with. I think we put in a total of about 5-6 hours on this one track! I think you’ll like the final product. After hearing this over and over I began to wonder what “IT” was?
Lead Vocals: Mike
Harmony Vocals: Dad
Piano: Mike
Lead Electric Guitar: Dad
Bass Guitar: Liza
Drums: Me
Choir Effect (from Piano): Mike
Let It Be (Beatles)
