ICBC 2005 (Inter-Collegiate Business Competition)

****MASSIVE ENTRY WARNING****
This weekend (Jan 13th-16th) I was at Queen’s University for the ICBC event. This time around I was on the MIS team. I lost (again.). I actually felt bad this time because [unlike last week, where I know we should have won] I felt like we had dropped the ball, and therefore we were completely to blame for the loss. However, I guess it’s still an accomplishment that we beat 30 schools to be finalists and so the competition was pretty stiff. I’m not one to make excuses. We lost, that’s it. I still learned a lot, and that’s what matters.

My coach said something I really liked: “If you always want to win, stay home.” This is true. Along with: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Anyway, I won’t go on and on trying to cheer myself up, but I know since I have a ton of pics, you’ll need something to read while they all download. :P So, one last point: A girl (NOT from my school) who saw all the MIS presentations came up and told me: “I really thought you guys had the best presentation. I don’t know why you didn’t win.” Well, I suppose she might have said this to make me feel better, but why bother going out of your way to lie to a stranger? She could have just said: “You presented really well. Too bad you didn’t win.” Thus, I will assume she actually meant it and we did really have the best presentation!! :D This weekend our only team who ended up with a medal was the Business Policy team who got GOLD!! (all or nothing with us I guess! lol). Good job guys (and girl)! I watched that presentation. Truly amazing; I couldn’t believe how quickly our boy Adam came up with all the answers! A very special thanks to the ICBC exec team and volunteers who put on a great event this weekend. Despite the loss, I still had an AMAZING time and the pics will prove it:

The first night was Karaoke night! Here’s Chris leading the team in song! I don’t remember what they were singing, but it was good!!

Chris had enough of singing so he decided to put on the buffalo gear. Here’s Buffalo, Dustin, some dude and Adam singing something. Later that night Adam and I went up and performed our version of “My Name Is” we ended up singing/rapping: “Hi! (My name is) What?! (My name is) Who?! (My name is)(scratching sound) CONCORDIA!”. I personally think this should be one of the new Concordia cheers, before someone else steals it!! As we saw this weekend, some schools were SERIOUSLY lacking cheer!

Ro, Manuel and myself. The JMSB MIS majors present at the event! Although, Ro competed in the Business policy event (the winning team!! :D ). The next picture is of some JMSB’ers and Lethbridge’ers; they were really a fun bunch. They ended up winning the spirit award, and we were glad they did!! “Lethbridge and Concordia – PARTY! PARTY! PARTY!”

Interesting story/coincidence: This is Meghan who was the university liaison/hotel logistics officer on the ICBC exec team. I started up a conversation with her, and it turns out she’s going to Sweden this semester! What are the odds!? Who goes to Sweden!? Unfortunately, even if I was still going, she’ll be at a different school there. Oh well! Obviously I told her to keep in touch, because now I’ll be able to get a Canadian’s first hand view of Sweden from someone who likes to party! Good luck Meghan!! ;)

They were playing some irish-jig-type music, and these girls (don’t know from which school) stepped and started bustin’ out some Riverdance-like moves. I need to learn that stuff! I didn’t realize until I saw the pics close up that their T-shirts say: “We’re the meanest…” :D After the dance, I noticed someone had the buffalo head on, and it obviously wasn’t Chris! The girl, who I think was cute, (don’t remember) took it off, shook her head, looked at me and said: “I think I just got lice from that thing!” My response: “Nah, nah, don’t worry. You’ve probably just got herpes from it.” :P She knew I was kidding. I told her to put it on again so I could take a pic. She did.

On the first day of presentations (I was presenting the 2nd day), I snagged my pants on some table somewhere and almost ripped them. I don’t know exactly what happened to them, but thankfully Sarah was able to sew them up for me! Thanks Sarah!!! :)

Second night dinner was sponsored by Kraft. On the left is some of our JMSB peeps with some Lethbridge peeps. On the right is the crazy Lethbridge coach and our coach chatting it up. The Lethbridge coach was picking up more girls than we were! lol He also drank more beer in an hour than most of us (put together!) did all weekend! It was great…

Here’s a pic of Tania K, Maureen our AMAZING team host and myself. Maureen was so great all weekend. Really fun, really cute and overall just a very nice girl. We were really lucky to have her! :)

Here’s our boy Jamie (aka: BLING! BLING!). Great team host as well. I guess the execs knew that Concordia was a party school so they paired us up with some fun people! Jamie and Maureen even joined the famed “JMSB Huddle” when they were announcing the winners. Here’s another reason I liked Jamie so much: When they announced the last event, and we realized we only placed in 1, he looked at me and said: “Hey man, no matter what anyone says, the one thing that can’t be disputed is that you guys are still the best looking group here. And that’s what really matters!” LOL! Yes it is Jamie, yes it is. All the best to you my friend! Ha ha

2 random gala pics when everyone decided to go crazy with their school cheers. Well…those who had cheers…

JMSB at the bar lining up the Tequila shots…

On the left is the ICBC exec team doing their dance to Destiny Child’s “Lose my Breath”. Apparently they hired a choreographer! I only got to see the last bit. Good job! On the right is our host Mo havin’ a great time! ;)

Left: Myself and Manuel (my MIS teammate). Right: Steph and I. Thanks for the tatoos!! ;)

Left: Carleton’s master debaters (Lisa and Tiona (I think?!)), their host (?) and Laura who I was never officially introduced to, but I have her business card here on my desk! I think I took a picture with her later in the night. I can’t remember… Look at the smile on my face in that second pic! LOL

Here’s the man that puts it all together. This is our incredible coach Prof. Haber who puts up with us all semester and gets us ready for these events. None of us can say enough to thank him, but thanks for everything sir!! :)

Sarah and Manuel. By the end of the night everyone (and I mean everyone) was covered in JMSB stickers or tatoos! I stuck one on Steph’s pants as well, and I think that’s Harold pointing it out! :P

Here’s Nina the MIS event coordinator/systems officer and Nadja the publications/PR officer at the afterparty.

More group pics. Left: Steph, Chelsey (the ONLY girl in the MIS event) from Lethbridge, myself and Harold. Right: Danny Mac, Harold and Chris. Notice the propagation of stickers now!

Left: This is Melissa from Kraft. She was present at the second night dinner, but I didn’t see her. I just heard Adam make a cheesy (no pun intended) joke saying: “Those Kraft girls are quite the dish!”. At the final gala I noticed a pretty girl sitting at our table (who I thought was a student or volunteer) and was then informed she was a Kraft rep! She was a lot of fun. Again, I’m glad we kept ending up with fun people at this thing! I think at one point our table started chanting: “Melissa and Concordia – PARTY! PARTY! PARTY!” Remember the 4 Cs of marketing Melissa, I want you to get that promotion!! ;)
Right: Nina the MIS event coordinator. Really nice girl. I remember she seemed a little nervous during the first briefing but appeared to be extrememly enthusiastic; great smile too! She mentioned we had a great presentation! SO THERE! :P

Adam harassing more girls on the dance floor…tsk tsk tsk! :P Cat and I. She’s a lot of fun (hence being on the social team!) !

Here’s the winning poli
cy team on the left: Ted (Tevo), Adam (Teamhotsex24), Ro (Ro my boat) along with Chelsey and Cat. Right: Adam and Ro.

We were lucky enough to be on the very top floor (6th! :P ). This was the view from our penthouse suite! As you see, it’s nicer when you looked to the left!

Well, those were my pictures. Similarly to commerce games, I’m sure I’ll be getting some others which I will post eventually. Hope you enjoyed them!
