Networking Cocktails and Imagineering Radish

Tonight, some of the commerce games students from the JMSB were invited to a networking cocktail hosted by McKinsey consulting. They’re the biggest consulting firm in the world. The company seems very interesting. They’ll definitely be getting a CV once I’m done! I liked the whole: “Become a consultant to get a lot of different business perspectives.” I didn’t realize until we arrived that they had invited the top 3 schools from the commerce games: McGill, JMSB and HEC…in no particular order…*cough* *cough*. OK, so we came in 2nd. You knew that already ;) A nice guy from HEC came and told us: “I’m from HEC, but I really have no idea how you guys lost that last debate. Our team was even convinced you won!”. Another confirmation that it was blatantly obvious who had won. We’ve gotten over it and moved on. Some people hadn’t yet- 2 weeks later and the debater from McGill was still talking about how he should have won and how 2nd place was a disgraceful failure! Now THAT was funny to watch. Sure enough, Dustin had to jump in with his own comments. After the cocktail we joined up with some fellow CG’ers for some drinks at Reggie’s.

Some interesting quotes from the night:

“Listen, you would have been second anyway had we made it to the final.” – I don’t think they liked that. This one was interesting:

“Are you eating a radish?!?!”

“Yes.”

“Wow. Good for you. I can’t eat radish.” – I’m not sure why this was so impressive, but this is what business students discuss at a networking cocktail. ;) How about:

“Stop imagineering stuff! I never said that!” – New words are formed when mixed with wine. Not in the dictionary, but check this out: www.imagineering.org.

I was surprised at the amount of students going on international exchanges within the next few weeks as well: Dustin-Japan, Vanessa-Spain, Genevieve-Germany, Pascal-Austria, etc. It was fun to see Steph realize that she had told me about half her life at ICBC! ;) I’m still not sure why she was embarassed, but whatever! :P She kept saying: “Wait, did I tell you about…?” Yes you did. But did I tell you about the time I jumped of a cliff with some duct tape, a jar of mayonnaise and a racoon??

I offered to debate again tomorrow evening at the McGill Winter Carnival. I heard they needed an extra person yesterday and of course, being the team player that I am, I agreed! :) We’ll see how this one goes. Apparently this is the “big show”. It’ll be fun!

Finally, for anyone who wants to join: tomorrow there is a fundraising concert for Tsunami victims at club soda ($12 donation I believe?). And around 23:00ish we’ll be going to the Mile End (club/lounge on St. Laurent). Dustin has organized a CG/ICBC/Going-away party there. Good times will be had by all and I’ll make sure to have my camera!
