So this is where I was born…

I’ve never been here before. The place looks beautiful. I wish I could have seen it earlier! I took some pictures from the airplane of Male (our transit point) and Sri Lanka (see below). We landed yesterday at about 16:05 local time. Some boys my grandfather knows from the local church came to pick us up at the airport. They drove us to Colombo where we’re staying with my uncle for a few days. There’s a great view from his apartment. It’s raining right now, but I’ll try and take a bunch of pictures when I go around the city later today. Until last night, I hadn’t slept for about 30 hours, but I’m adjusting well to the time change and weather so far.
There were about 6 open wireless LANs in the vicinity, but I was only able to connect to 1, and I still couldn’t access the internet; too bad. There’s supposed to be an internet café downstairs, so I’ll blog from there. Problem is, I’m not sure how I’m going to transfer this entry or my pictures to those PCs.
I sat next to Emily (a girl from the UK) on the plane. She came down with an international NGO and will be here helping for 4 months or so. I got her email address so we’ll be in touch. Then, while we were waiting for our luggage we met another girl (by the accent, I’m assuming she was Australian) who will be in Galle volunteering. I didn’t get to speak to her for 2 long, but I’ve got her email address as well. I can’t wait to meet more helpers; it’ll be great to see what all these people are doing to help.

Taking off in Male (Maldive Islands) This island is the airport. It looked beautiful! Too bad we couldn’t get off the plane!

You can still see the island through the clouds… on the right is a view of a part of Sri Lanka from the plane.
