What an exhausting day! Tudor and I caught the 09:30 bus. I couldn’t believe I managed to stand in a very crowded bus for over 3 hours till we finally reached the checkpoint. I think I’m going to carry some air freshener with me next time! I called Hesh (my aunt) as soon as we crossed the border and I had reception again. She was very glad that I was safe. We reached Vavuniya at about 16:30 and I took the bus to Colombo with Alfred at 17:45. I was sitting in the back corner (like all the cool people do in Canada!
) but I didn’t realize I was right under an AC (air conditioning) unit, which was later leaking water on me!! I managed to sleep a little until some drunken idiot decided to sit next to me (almost ON me actually). Once there was a little more space I politely asked him to go sit somewhere else (fine, fine, I wasn’t that polite.). When we arrived in the city, we walked to the bus station and I saw a bus that was about to leave. I told Alfred to quickly ask the conductor if that bus was going to Kollupitiya (pronounced “Kohl-Pity”), where we live. He didn’t. Instead, once the bus left, he asked some random guy on the street which bus was going to Kollupitiya. As I expected, the guy pointed to the bus that had just left and said: “That one.” Anyway, I’m glad I’m finally home safely and now I have to work on a personal project I would like to start. What a trip.
