I couldn’t get the ice cream today because we were told that the truck passes when the kids return from school (around 14:30). That person was mistaken. Apparently it passes by at 13:00. Not sure who’s marketing/distribution idea that is (aren’t kids the ones who consume the most ice cream??), but anyway, next time I come I can ask the truck to come when I specify and we’ll take care of it.
Jacob and I finished playing a game of Cricket with the kids in the camp. I’m not very good, but I tried. We met most of these kids over the past 2 days but a lot of them weren’t smiling and as Jacob said: “You can see the sadness and sense of deep loss on their faces.” During and after the game, we saw full smiles. When I was feeling a little discouraged a few weeks ago, my cousin Shehan sent me an email saying: “Even if you just put a smile on an orphan’s face, you’ve already made a difference.” Making a difference was my primary goal here. The kids are obviously happy that we’re here and were asking us to stay and play Karam with them. Unfortunately, Jacob and I had to get back to the construction site to check up on things. The kids lent us some bicycles so we could get back. They had a really good laugh as I got on the bike and rode off while ringing the little bell! They were laughing because I was having a hard time riding on sand and rocks (these aren’t mountain bikes!).

Playing cricket. All smiles! The kids were really excited to see themselves on our camera. I don’t know what Jacob was looking at!
