Birthday Activities

Something strange happened this morning: At about 06:30 I [thought I] heard a small voice saying: “Ian! Ian!” it sounded high pitched like when you dial someone by accident on your cell phone and they’re trying to yell your name. I looked at my phone and it was off, so I went back to bed. I heard it again. This time I thought it was the lady in the house calling me, so I got out of bed and checked outside. No one. I couldn’t get back to sleep now, so I woke up and started the day early…bizarre. I got a bunch of phone calls from family and friends in Sri Lanka as well as Canada. I got to speak to my family after a while which was really nice. I’m used to getting a birthday wish around midnight on the 1st, so good thing my grandparents and Jacob called at about 00:30 last night (this morning)!
I took the bus over to Heshani’s house at 10:00. She had got me some clothes since she keeps complaining that I don’t have enough here. She then took me out for lunch at the Cricket Club. Her friend Ragi joined us and we exchanged stories of youth delinquency as I’ve now gotten “older”! I told them I don’t think I’ll feel old till I hit 25. Then it’s all downhill!

This evening I arranged a small “party” for some of my relatives. I went out and ordered a coupla’ pizzas from Pizza Hut and a bucket of dirty bird (read: KFC chicken). I was happy because the kids seemed pretty excited. Eating western fast food is a big treat for them. I took them out to McD’s last week and they loved it! My aunt had a cake for me and there were 4 bears as the candles. She said: “That’s the rest of your family!” 
It was very nice. When I spoke to Joanna this morning she said: “I heard you were doing something for aunty! I knew you always have to do things for other people on your birthday!” I think that’s a Sri Lankan trait.
The most exciting birthday news: I’ve moved into my own place as of today! 
I’m (more or less) Heshani’s neighbor, so the location is quite convenient. Now I’ll actually be paying rent and cleaning up after myself! I’ve moved all my stuff, now I just need to setup the room.
