I was just randomly thinking about teleportation the other day. Don’t ask. I have faaar too much time on my hands these days. One of my coworkers at Pratt told me that one of her relatives who was studying physics had done a research paper about teleportation. More specifically: If a person is teleported does their conciousness and/or soul get teleported as well? That is, will you still be the same person when you reach the destination? Discuss amongst yourselves.
It appears that although Star Trek-like teleportation is many many years away, the US Military has actually funded studies into teleportation. Let’s look at a couple of article highlights:
“…it would be ideal if the United States could teleport U.S. soldiers into “a cave, tap bin Laden on the shoulder, and say: ‘Hey, let’s go,’ ” said Ranney Adams, spokesperson for the Air Force Research Laboratory…”
Can you imagine Bin Laden sitting around calmly making another threatening video and all of a sudden a bunch of US marines appear out of thin air!? “Hey, let’s go.”? LOL Am I the only person who finds that funny? Maybe…
“It would take 100 quintillion of the world’s best commercially available hard drives “to store the encoded information of just one human being.”
Now that’s a LOT of hard drives for one person!
“to heat up and dematerialize one human being would require . .. the energy equivalent of 330 one-megaton thermonuclear bombs.”
“Dematerialize” a human being. Now THAT sounds like fun.
“the only way to use (teleportation) as a secret weapon is to allow our enemies to bankrupt themselves thinking they can produce a teleportation machine.”, said noted physicist Michio Kaku
I liked this.
As cool as teleportation would be, I still wonder about one’s soul being teleported. There are so many mysteries of how the world works locked in time and space. In my opinion, figuring out the time/space dimension is the key to opening many doors…
