Heshani’s Car aka: Maggie May
There was a post on Boing Boing a few days ago linking to a video of a [somewhat] busy street in India. I was going through some of my own videos from Sri Lanka and found a couple of what it’s like to drive there. Pictured above was the car I was driving around…believe me, it was regularly pushed to its limits and Hesh can attest to that! lol
Funny story: It took me about a day to get used to driving on the opposite side. However, one day when I really wasn’t paying attention, I got in and actually SAT in the passenger seat before I realized the steering wheel wasn’t on that side! I maintained my cool, looked around to make sure no one had noticed, discreetly walked out, sat in the driver’s seat and drove away…
Me: ...look at the cars that are coming! This is what you have to show! Look at the three wheeler! Look at the…
Hesh: Yeah, yeah, OK that’s because YOU’RE driving like a loon!
- (in my head) No comment
- OK, OK, OK, OK don’t go so fast! Ian…we don’t have to show this.
- We have to show this…
- NO WAY! … Can they hear my voice?
- (laughing) Of course they can!
- (laughing) No they can’t!
- I’m telling you then can…
- I don’t think… See! He crossed the…crossed the bold line…I’m telling you…he’s a psycho…ok, ok, ok, ok. Oh my god! The cops!
When I move into the oncoming lane, notice how many of the cars on the left are not in proper lanes and notice how the cars on the right (oncoming lane) move over for me…
Given the way people drive in Sri Lanka I have no idea why pedestrians aren’t more careful. In this video you see a [TYPICAL] situation where some idiot is crossing Galle road (one of the main roads there) while looking away from traffic, without a care in the world. I feel the need to scare these people a little as you will see in the video. The main thing to notice is the beautiful shoreline when driving on Galle road, the last part is just bonus footage of almost running over some guy…
I can’t remember the name of the road this was on, but it was a small accident I came across on a rainy day. The highlight for me when I found this video was that I remembered the amazing mixtape CD that I bought in Sri Lanka!
You’ll hear a mix of ‘Hypnotize’ and ‘I Don’t Wanna Know’. I forgot the CD in the car when I left, but I wonder if my aunt still has it…
Good Job!
LOL! this post is hilarious, but then again im immuned to this kind of road mannerisms..
