Me? In a Window Office? Already?

People I know in person have been asking me how my new job has been treating me and I’m assuming some of you (readers) must be wondering the same thing. It’s going great!! :) I like it a lot. I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ll say it again: the team I work with is extremely bright and very dynamic. Being surrounded by quality people really challenges/pushes you to be your best.

SO…here’s my first funny office story: I agreed to help out another division for a few weeks, so I went over to the other building where our office is located on the 32nd floor. On the 2nd day, as I was sitting in my cubicle I noticed that there was an empty manager’s office in front of me. A few things crossed my mind. I finally thought: “Why not!?” and took action.

Some of the more senior consultants watched curiously as the new guy (me) shut his laptop, closed up his notes, neatly packed up his things and moved into the office. The next morning, I went right in and setup. This went on for a week until someone finally came up and asked what I was doing in a manager’s office! LOL I politely explained that I noticed it was empty, so I figured I’d use it until someone came in. She let me keep the office. :) Sadly, this week the manager came back and I was evicted. :( Anyhow, I enjoyed it for a few weeks and I should be back in my deparment shortly, so it’s all good! ;) Here are some pics of “my” office:

I loved the floor to ceiling window! :) The next 2 are of the view I had. Not bad eh? I would call my coworker and give her live weather reports just to tease her! ;)

My “Office Hijacking” Insipiration

One of my professors at JMSB told us a story about how he was working in a large corporation and noticed that there was a free manager office. He did the same, however, he took it a step further: he REALLY settled in. He actually put pictures of his family on the desk, filled up the bookcases and even hung his degrees up on the wall! He told us that after a while people just assumed he was a manager, started giving him manager tasks and eventually he got promoted because people perceived him as a manager! Fantastic…LOL!
