Alright, so I have to ask, because I’m trying to figure out if this is a cultural thing, or if my family is weird (and I/we should “fix” it somehow). :)
I never hug my family members unless it’s a special occasion (birthdays, anniversaries, etc) or they’re going on a trip. I’m not even sure if I’ve ever actually SAID: “I love you.” to anyone in my family. I must have at some point. Many North Americans find this extremely bizarre. However, you’d probably be hard pressed to find a more tightly-knit family than mine. We’re extremely close. Keeping in mind that actions speak louder than words, we all know we love each other so…does it really need to be said? I guess it’s nice when it is…
The part that’s a little strange is that I realized that I’ve probably hugged friends / acquaintances / randoms more often than I’ve hugged my own family members. Now THAT’S weird when I think about it.
All this brings us to the following questions:
How often do you tell your parents and/or siblings you love them?
How often do you hug them?
What nationality are you?
I’d like to know. :)

1. Everytime I speak to them on the phone so everyday I guess. But it’s not like a “I love you”. It’s more like “Love ya! See you soon!” kinda thing.
2. Whenever I see (not so much with the males of the older generation in my family though – I think they’re not too keen on affection!)
3. British (technically but Sri Lankan origin)
