Good news for social entrepreneurship and the development world last week; the US House-Senate has approved $50M of funding for the very first social innovation fund!
Looking at some of the comments on the Chronicle of Philanthropy site it seems that people are disappointed that funding for volunteer and non-profit capacity building programs has been cut to support this. While I can sympathize, I’m glad that there’s more of a market approach to social development now and at the very least, this shows that governments are interested in social innovation rather than simply giving away money to non-profits.
